Bellarmine upended by EKU in return to Knights Hall

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Bellarmine returned to campus for Saturday's contest against Eastern Kentucky, but fell 75-65 in front of a packed house at Knights Hall.

Senior guard Bash Wieland led the Knights with 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting after having his 11-game double-digit scoring streak snapped at FGCU.

Junior forward Langdon Hatton reached double-digits after his nine-game double-digit scoring streak was also snapped at FGCU. He finished with 12 points and is shooting 56.8 percent over his last 11 games. Sophomore guard Ben Johnson added 11 points, hitting three threes.

Bellarmine controlled much of the first half and led by eight at 24-16 after a layup by Garrett Tipton with 7:55 left. The Knights were ahead of the Colonels for nearly 12 minutes, but EKU closed the first stanza on a 21-11 run over the final 7:35 to take a two-point lead into the locker room.

The teams were tied at 59-59 with 9:22 left after a layup by Langdon Hatton to cap a 16-9 Bellarmine run, but EKU scored the next eight points to take control en route to the 10-point win. After hitting six threes in the first half, the Knights went scoreless from beyond the arc in the second half.

Four Colonels registered double-digit point totals led by Isaiah Cozart's 17. The nation's leading shot blocker also had a pair of swats and grabbed 10 rebounds for his 11th double-double of the season. Michael Moreno also had a double-double, his second of the season, with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Leland Walker added 16 points and a game-high five assists. Kentucky's 2022 Mr. Basketball, Turner Buttry of Bowling Green High School, hit on 3-of-4 from deep and finished with 10 points.
