Men's tennis tops Xavier 5-2 to run win streak to three

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University men's tennis team notched its third straight victory with a 5-2 win over Xavier on Thursday in the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.

The doubles point was hard earned for Bellarmine (4-7). After the teams split at Nos. 3 and 1, with junior Xavier Ecarma and senior Kyle Tang defeating Kyle Totorica and Jorge Santamaria 6-2 for the Knights, freshman Louie Fletcher and sophomore Eli Wood edged Charlie Temming and Cristian Gonzalez 7-3 in a tiebreaker to triumph 7-6 and secure the point.

Bellarmine took a 3-0 lead after junior Jack Batchelor topped Ryan Cahill 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, and Tang bested Marco Pennelli 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3. Xavier (1-10) got on the board, but Wood clinched the win with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Alex Adamec at No. 6.

For good measure, sophomore Vineet Ramesh outlasted Charlie Temming 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 at No. 4.

Bellarmine will host Centre at 2:30 p.m. (ET) March 8.
