EAST LANSING, Mich. — The visiting Bellarmine University men's tennis team tallied a pair of singles wins and proved to be a major threat in a 5-2 loss to No. 19 Michigan State on Sunday.
Senior
Kyle Tang topped Josh Portnoy 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 for Bellarmine (1-6). Sophomore
Eli Wood also defeated Reed Crocker 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 at No. 6 as the Knights pulled even with Michigan State at 2-all.
Junior
Jack Batchelor, at No. 1, and sophomore
Vineet Ramesh, at No. 3, both engaged in third sets while the Knights were within 3-2 of the Spartans. Freshman
Louie Fletcher was involved in a first-set tiebreaker at No. 5, as the Knights consistently pushed undefeated Michigan State (8-0).
The Spartans clinched the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3.
Bellarmine will play at noon (ET) Sunday at Illinois State.
