Baseball homers 3 times in front end of doubleheader loss to Samford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Bellarmine University baseball team fell in both games of a Sunday doubleheader at Samford, dropping contests of 13-9 and 8-3.

Samford (8-4) completed a four-game sweep of the Knights (1-10).

Game 1: Samford 13, Bellarmine 9
In the seven-inning game, Bellarmine amassed 11 hits, including three home runs. However, Samford scored multiple runs in every inning except for one, including a four-run fifth, and tallied 13 hits.

Senior third baseman Reed Blaszczyk smacked a pair of solo homers to bump his season total to three for Bellarmine. He also stole a base and scored three runs.

Junior first baseman Casey Sorg cranked his first homer of the year, a two-run shot in the fifth. Sorg added an RBI double and went 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored.

Junior center fielder Jake Agarwal collected a pair of hits, including a two-run double, while junior second baseman Andres Castro had an RBI double among his two hits. Sophomore left fielder Joey Milto contributed an RBI single.

Sophomore right-hander Cole McMichael tossed a scoreless inning of relief for Bellarmine, but Samford matched Bellarmine with three homers and also racked up six doubles.

Game 2: Samford 8, Bellarmine 3
Bellarmine had just four hits in the series finale. Castro singled, stole second and third and scored on a throwing error in the second inning.

Bellarmine added two runs in the sixth when Blaszczyk scored on a wild pitch, and junior left fielder Jackson Case drove in a run on a ground out. The Knights cut their deficit to 5-3 at that point, but Samford scored three runs in the seventh.

Sophomore right-hander Ben Tedesco retired the side in order in a scoreless inning of relief.

Bellarmine will host Western Kentucky at 2:30 p.m. (ET) Tuesday.
