LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine University women's basketball coach
Chancellor Dugan on Monday began unveiling a sizable 2024 recruiting class with the announcement of the addition of Rachel Shropshire.
A 6-foot-3 forward, Shropshire played three years at Franklin County (Ky.) High School after playing one year at Frankfort High School. The native of Frankfort, Kentucky, was a four-year starter.
"Rachel led her team to the state tournament and had a fantastic senior year," Dugan said. "She really stepped up her scoring and rebounding this past season. Rachel can shoot the 3 and take it off the dribble. She has great timing for blocking shots."
As a senior, Shropshire averaged 9.5 points and 4.1 rebounds while shooting nearly 40 percent from 3-point range. She posted similar numbers her junior year, averaging 10.6 points and 4.6 rebounds while sinking nearly 36 percent of her attempts from deep.
Shropshire was an All-State selection as a senior. She was also a two-time recipient of All-District and All-Region accolades while earning multiple Academic All-State acknowledgments.
Shropshire helped guide Franklin County to KHSAA Sweet 16 appearances her sophomore and senior seasons. The Flyers were a three-time district champion and two-time regional champion during her tenure, building records of 28-8, 26-8 and 30-7 from her sophomore through senior campaigns.
"I chose to sign with Bellarmine because it was close to home, and I have been wanting to go to Bellarmine ever since I went to Elite Camp two years ago," Shropshire said. "I hope to bring more height to the team and to use my ability to shoot."
Shropshire competed for the No Limits and Richmond Heat AAU teams her sophomore year, capturing a tournament title in South Carolina with the latter. She played for Lady Vision as a junior, and her squad secured fourth place in an Under Armour Finals tournament.
