Field hockey falls to Stanford in Wednesday afternoon contest

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Bellarmine University field hockey team, in the midst of a three game-home stand, dropped its afternoon contest to Stanford 4-0 on Wednesday at Trager Stadium.
 
With the loss, Bellarmine moves to 2-4 on the season while the win improves Stanford's record to 5-1.
 
The Cardinal jumped out in front early, tallying the game's first goal with seven minutes remaining in the opening period before adding a second goal one minute later. Stanford tacked on two more goals in the second period before coasting to the 4-0 win.
 
Mid-way through the fourth period, Bellarmine had its best opportunity to score when grad student Anna Crump found herself alone within the circle, but a great save by Stanford's goalie put the threat to rest.
 
For the game, Stanford outshot the Knights 14-2, 7-1 on goal. Four different Cardinal players accounted for their scores In Allison Kucyk, Cara Sambeth, Alayna Burns and Scout Butler.
 
The Knights are back in action on Sunday, September 22 as they kick off their MAC conference schedule, welcoming Miami University (Ohio) to Trager Stadium. Game time is set for 12 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
