The Bellarmine University field hockey team battled in its MAC conference opener but ultimately fell to Miami (OH), 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at Trager Stadium.

The Knights' goalkeeper, junior
Kailey Workman was the star of the game, racking up 11 saves in the contest. Thanks to the excellent play by Workman, the game remained deadlocked 0-0 after the first period. The Redhawks opened the scoring with 9:53 left in the second after Workman stopped their first eight shots on goal. Miami later added a second goal in the period to take a 2-0 lead heading into the half. Miami continued its attack in the third, adding two goals in the first eight minutes of the quarter. Bente Moormann. The Redhawks added one final goal in the period before tacking on a final goal in the opening minute of the fourth period to secure the 6-1 win.

Bellarmine was outshot by Miami 19-2 and had just a pair of penalty corners to Miami's 10.
