LINCOLN, Ne. – The Bellarmine University men's tennis team wrapped up its opening weekend of the spring season on Sunday with a neutral site match against University of Nebraska at Omaha, falling to the Mavericks 4-2 at the Dillon Tennis Center on the campus of University of Nebraska.
The Knights secured two team points in the singles portion of the match thanks to juniors
Eli Wood and
Matthew Nice. Wood was the first to strike, topping Christian Trevey 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). Nice followed shortly after, defeating Bryan Kuntz 6-2, 1-6, 7-5. After falling in the first set, junior
Vineet Ramesh came back and won the second set to force a third, but the match went unfished.
In doubles action, Wood and senior
Brent Reynolds were on the verge of taking another win for Bellarmine, leading their opponent 5-3, but the match was ended early due to Omaha clinching the team win.
Up next, Bellarmine will make its long-awaited home debut, playing host to Furman University on January 26 at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.
