LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Hosting its first match of the season, the Bellarmine University men's tennis team took advantage of playing on its home court for a 4-0 win over Furman University on Sunday afternoon.
The win, the Knights' first of the spring season, improves Bellarmine's record to 1-2. With the loss, Furman also moves to 1-2 on the year.
Bellarmine got off to a hot start in doubles, securing the point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 court. Junior

Brent Reynolds struck first at No. 3 doubles, defeating Nicolas Dispas and Nicolas Snyder 6-1. Junior
Vineet Ramesh and sophomore
Louie Fletcher secured the doubles point with a 6-2 win over Cole Burnham and Connor Laymon at No. 2 doubles. Senior
Jack Batchelor and junior
Matthew Nice were leading 5-4 in their match but did not finish due to BU winning the doubles point.
In singles, Batchelor contributed a point in the No. 1 spot, defeating Elijah Poritzky 7-5, 6-4. Nice also scored a point for the Knights in singles, despite losing the opening set against Theophile Joly. Nice settled in quickly, earning a 5-7, 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles. Ramesh added the final point to clinch the match at the No. 2 spot. After dropping the first set 1-6 to Matthew Kandel, Ramesh went on to win 6-4, 6-4 to put the Knights up 4-0 and secure the team win. Wood was tied 1-1 with John Rado in No. 4 singles when the win was secured, stopping the match before its finish. Both Reynolds and Fletcher did not begin their singles matches.
Up next, Bellarmine will conclude its short home stand with a match against University of the Cumberlands on Friday, January 31.
