LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Bellarmine men's tennis closed out its first homestand of the season in shutout fashion, sweeping University of the Cumberlands 7-0 at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex on Friday afternoon.
With the win, the Knights even their record at 2-2 on the season while the loss moves Cumberlands to 0-1.
Bellarmine secured the doubles point quickly. In the top spot, the duo of senior
Jack Batchelor and junior
Matthew Nice topped their opponents 6-0 before the pair of
Brent Reynolds and
Eli Wood, playing in the No. 3 doubles, took a 6-2 victory.
In singles, the Knights continued to dominate. Wood struck first out of the group, claiming a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles. Batchelor and junior
Vineet Ramesh followed shortly after with 6-1, 7-5 and 6-1, 6-2 wins, respectively. Nice also secured his win in straight sets, topping his opponent 7-5, 6-1. On courts five and six, sophomore
Louie Fletcher and senior
Brent Reynolds had a little more work on their hands. After dropping the first set 7-6 (7-5), Fletcher settled in for a 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) finish. Reynolds also stumbled in the first set, falling 6-4 before taking control for a 6-3, 1-0 (12-10) victory.
Up next, Bellarmine begins a three-match road trip with a stop in Grand Forks, ND on Friday, February 14 at the University of North Dakota.
