GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Bellarmine University men's tennis team completed a two-match weekend at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND, falling 7-0 on Friday night and 6-1 on Saturday afternoon.
On Friday night,
Louie Fletcher nearly got the Knights on the board with a point in singles play. After dropping the first set 7-6, Fletcher rebounded with a 7-6 win of his own in the second before falling 10-8 in the super tiebreak.
Saturday's match saw a little more life from the Knights as
Jack Batchelor and
Matthew Nice pulled out a 6-4 win in doubles. North Dakota would go on to win in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take the point, however. Batchelor continued his winning ways in singles play, notching a 6-2, 6-2 win on court one to earn the lone Bellarmine point of the weekend. Nice nearly added a second point in No. 3 singles, forcing a super tiebreak after falling 6-4 in the first and winning 6-4 in the second, but he ultimately dropped the final set 11-9.
Bellarmine (2-4) will take nearly two weeks off before its next match on February 27 when the Knights make the short trip to Cincinnati, OH to take on Xavier University.
