Fantastic fourth pushes Knights past UCA for first ASUN victory

13-0 run to open final period sparks BU in comeback win

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The beaming smile on Anna Rodgers' face and the subsequent playful push from an equally radiant Miyah Brown proved to be a picture-perfect reflection of the Bellarmine University women's basketball team's fourth quarter Saturday afternoon in Knights Hall.

Rodgers' first career field goal was a go-ahead 3-pointer, and Bellarmine simply never looked back after the shot, continuing to rain triples in overwhelming Central Arkansas in the final period of a 68-60 victory in Atlantic Sun Conference play.

Senior forward Skylar Treadwell recorded her third double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds while tying a career high with four blocks for Bellarmine (10-5, 1-1 ASUN), which not only secured its first conference win but tied a Division I-era program record with its 10th overall victory.

Against the ASUN's second-stingiest defense and the No. 2 team in the league's preseason coaches' poll, senior guard Hope Sivori racked up a game-high 16 points with seven rebounds and four steals. Brown added 13 points and seven rebounds against Central Arkansas (7-6, 1-1), and senior guard Hayley Harrison collected 11 points and six rebounds.

Bellarmine further established its budding reputation as a "fourth-quarter team." While the Knights didn't require an epic second-half comeback like they pulled off at home three times in nonconference play, they nonetheless trailed 47-41 heading into the final period.

Senior guard Ashlee Harris jump-started Bellarmine by going high off the glass on a drive while getting fouled and converting a traditional three-point play. Brown then followed her made jumper by pitching to Rodgers on the left wing, and the freshman guard/forward drilled a go-ahead 3-pointer. It was her first career field goal and prompted a joyous smile from Rodgers and excited congratulatory shove from Brown.

Things only got better. Treadwell buried a 3-pointer and Brown capitalized on a Sivori steal with a lay-in as Bellarmine hit all five shots in a 13-0 run to start the fourth quarter.

Sivori then bracketed a pair of triples around a Brown basket as the Knights' lead swelled to 10, and junior Erin Toller followed by sinking yet another shot from deep for a 66-53 advantage with 3:42 left. After Toller's trifecta, Bellarmine had outscored Central Arkansas 25-6 in the fourth quarter and rolled to the win from there.

Five of Bellarmine's 12 made 3-pointers came in the fateful fourth, where the Knights outscored the Sugar Bears 27-13. BU's defense held UCA to 25.0-percent shooting (4-for-16) from the floor in the final stanza.

Rebounding couldn't be devalued. Central Arkansas entered at plus-3.8 per game on the boards while Bellarmine was minus-4.1 per contest. The Knights finished with a 51-46 advantage, including a season-high 23 offensive rebounds. In addition, led by Treadwell, BU's eight blocks were its most against a D1 opponent this season.

Bellarmine will open ASUN road play with a 7 p.m. (ET) contest Wednesday at Queens.
