LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine University track and field will get its indoor season going in earnest when the Knights compete Friday and Saturday in the University of Kentucky-hosted Rod McCravy Memorial at the Louisville-based Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center.
The competition marks the second of six straight meets at the Norton SLC for the Knights, who will also host the ASUN Indoor Championship at the local venue.
Here's a peek at the 2025 Knights:
- This season, Bellarmine Hall of Famer Jim Vargo returned for his second stint as the Knights' director of men's and women's cross country/track and field. In the fall, Bellarmine men's XC placed fourth and the women sixth at the 12-team ASUN Championship. Redshirt junior Chase Atkins earned second-team All-ASUN accolades on the men's side, and junior Sierra Oesterling secured third-team All-ASUN plaudits on the women's side.
- The men's distance medley relay and 4x400 relay teams earned silver medals at last season's ASUN Indoor Championship. Three-fourths of both relay squads are returners: senior Nolan Hester, junior Jackson Gordon and Atkins in the DMR and Gordon, sophomore Carter Olmsted and junior Zander Hooten in the 4x400. Both relay teams set new program records at the conference meet.
- Gordon and Hooten both secured a second silver medal at the ASUN Indoor Championship. Gordon's came in the 400 and Hooten's in the 60 hurdles.
- The women's 4x400 relay team earned a bronze medal at the ASUN Indoor Championship. Most of that unit returns in sophomore Raven Payne, junior Jansen Story and senior Chloe Freilinger.
- Additional scoring from 2025 returners at last season's ASUN Indoor Championship came from Freilinger, who placed fourth in the women's 400, and junior Alysia Hurtado, who took eighth in the weight throw. Junior Alex Hooten placed fifth in the men's 800, Atkins took sixth in the 3000 and Olmsted finished seventh in the 60 hurdles.
- At last season's ASUN Outdoor Championship, Payne garnered a silver medal in the women's 400.
- Gordon, Zander Hooten and junior Zac Hutslar are returning members of the 4x400 relay team that wrangled a bronze medal at the ASUN Outdoor Championship. The trio helped set program records in the 4x400 and 4x100.
- Bellarmine has plenty of firepower returning from additional scoring at the ASUN Outdoor Championship. Gordon placed fourth in the men's 400, sophomore Clinton Bass took fifth and Olmsted sixth in the 110 hurdles, Hutslar was seventh in the 200 and Alex Hooten was seventh in the 800. Senior Luke Wunsch placed eighth in the hammer throw and the discus. - Of current Bellarmine athletes, Gordon is the men's indoor record holder in the 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 800 and 1,000. Atkins owns the top mark in the 3000, as does redshirt junior Paul Stamm in the 5000, Zander Hooten in the 60 hurdles and redshirt sophomore Alex Cole in the weight throw. Freilinger owns the women's indoor 300 and 600 program records.
