Men's soccer celebrates a 2-1 ASUN win over Queens on Alumni Night

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University men's soccer team struck from on the ground and through the air Saturday night at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.

Sophomore forward Johan Nissen-Lie scored in the first half and sophomore defender Martin Cadagan located the net after the break as the Knights defeated Queens 2-1 in Atlantic Sun Conference action to remain perfect at home.

Sophomore midfielder Nick Harshaw supplied an assist for Bellarmine (6-3-2, 2-1 ASUN), which improved to 5-0 in Frazier Stadium this season and did so to the delight of numerous former Knights on Alumni Night. BU has won five of its last six contests.

Bellarmine opened the scoring against Queens (5-5-2, 0-1-2) in the 27th minute when Nissen-Lie simply grounded a clearance attempt by the Royals goalkeeper. Smothered by Nissen-Lie, the ball deflected off his foot and trickled into the net for his seventh goal of the season.

Nissen-Lie helped set up Bellarmine's second goal in the 68th minute when he was fouled near the end line. Harshaw curled the ensuing free kick toward the back post, where Cadagan took flight, laying out horizontally and ramming a header into the net for a 2-0 lead on his second goal of the season.

Queens answered quickly as Cole Pumpian split the defense in the box and converted his second goal of the year.

The Royals had one more really good chance, but Bellarmine redshirt senior goalkeeper Peter Van Euwen popped the screaming shot into the air and calmly snatched it on the way down. The Knights' defense didn't allow another serious threat.

Bellarmine finished with a 16-10 advantage in shots, including 6-4 on frame. The Knights had a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.

Bellarmine will play at 6 p.m. (ET) Tuesday in a nonconference match at IU Indy.
