Volleyball falls at Lipscomb in ASUN road debut

NASHVILLE, Tn. – Bellarmine volleyball made its 2025 ASUN road debut on Friday night at Lipscomb, falling 3-0 (16-25, 14-25, 17-25) at Allen Arena.

The Knights move to 6-9 on the year and begin their conference schedule 0-3. With the win, Lipscomb notched its first ASUN win of the season and is now 5-8, 1-2 on the year.

Senior Kylie Van Hoy and junior Natalie Bland led Bellarmine with five kills each. Van Hoy stuffed the stat sheet adding 11 assists, four digs, three blocks and an ace while Bland tallied three digs and a block on the night. Sophomore Payton Parsons and freshman Lillie Meinhart led the defensive effort with nine digs each. Meinhart contributed six assists and two kills in the effort with Parsons adding two assists and an ace.

Set 1
The first set was tightly contested to start. Bellarmine used a 3-0 run to take a 6-4 lead before Lipscomb answered with a 5-0 run to jump ahead 9-6 as the Knights called a timeout. BU continued to keep the set close as the Bisons tried to pull away, using a 3-1 run to get back within four, down 17-13, as Lipscomb used a timeout. The Bisons went on the attack right out of the break, scoring two points before a final Bellarmine timeout. They scored again immediately after before the Knights stopped the run with three straight points of their own to stay within four at 20-16 and force the Bisons to call
their final timeout. Lipscomb however would go on to score five straight points after the break to win the set 25-16.

Set 2
Set two started just as the first with the score dead even at 10-10. Lipscomb took the first extended lead from there with a 3-0 run, going up 13-10 as the Knights used their first timeout. Bellarmine did its best to stifle the Bisons' offense, but Lipscomb continued to push the pace as BU called its final timeout down 17-14. From there it was all Bisons as they scored seven consecutive points after the timeout to cap off a 9-0 run for a 25-14 victory.

Set 3
Lipscomb got out to an early lead in the third, going up 4-1. The Bisons maintained control of the stanza, holding on to an 11-6 lead as Bellarmine called a timeout. The Knights had to use their final timeout soon after as they found themselves in an 18-10 hole. BU scratched across a 3-0 run late to try and mount a comeback but the damage was already done as Lipscomb claimed the set 25-17 for a 3-0 sweep.

Up next, Bellarmine will stay in Tennessee, traveling to Clarksville for an ASUN meeting with Austin Peay on Saturday, October 4 at 8 pm E.T.
