CONWAY, Ark. — Central Arkansas snapped the Bellarmine University men's soccer team's four-game winning streak as the Bears defeated the Knights 2-1 on Sunday in Atlantic Sun Conference play at the Bill Stephens Track/Soccer Complex.
Bellarmine (5-3-2, 1-1 ASUN) scored inside the first 10 minutes, but Central Arkansas (2-6-2, 1-0-1) didn't concede another goal while scoring two of its own. Devonte Richards was responsible for the game-winner as the Bears found the net once in each half.
Bellarmine's goal came in the eighth minute and was ruled an own goal. Sophomore forward
Johan Nissen-Lie centered the ball to redshirt junior midfielder
Tate McCrery at the top right corner of the 6. McCrery laced a shot toward the far post that deflected into the net on a UCA clearance attempt.
Bellarmine appeared as if it would take a 1-0 lead into halftime, but Central Arkansas swung momentum after equalizing the contest in the 44th minute on a goal by Vaclav Kozeny.
Bellarmine had a shot deflect off the post following a corner kick that stood as the best chance for either team at a second goal for much of the second half. However, in the 74th minute, Richards converted a shot from an extremely difficult angle on the right side, and the Bears made it hold up as the game-winner.
Central Arkansas finished with a 15-7 advantage in shots, including 8-4 on frame.
Bellarmine will host Queens in an ASUN contest at 7 p.m. (ET) Saturday.
