Wood leads men's tennis in final event of the fall

MUNCIE, In. – Bellarmine men's tennis closed out its fall schedule in an impressive fashion, collecting 14 wins at the Ball State Invite last weekend.

BU joined the host Cardinals in a field with Butler, Dayton, IU Indy and Xavier.

The Knights were represented by just six members of the team in seniors Eli Wood, Matthew Nice and Zak Vince and freshmen Ryan Parkins, Colby Berson and Sebastian Baumann.

Playing in a dynamic duo format, Bellarmine's double pairings were Wood/Parkins, Vince/Berson and Nice/Baumann with all six men also competing individually.

The Vince/Berson and Wood Parkins duos were unstoppable as both pairings turned in perfect 3-0 weekends. Vince and Berson opened with a 7-6 (7-4) win over Ball State's Nolan Hayward and Broc Fletcher, followed by wins over BSU's Zack Kimelman and Anthony Shalakov (7-6 (7-5)), and IU Indy's Jai Dutta and Brandon Pham (6-4). Wood and Parkins began their run with a win over Kimelman and Shalakov (6-3) before taking down Xavier's Bode Campbell and Cameron Kryscio (6-1) and Kyle Totorica and Lukas Grossman (6-3).

In singles, Wood continued to lead the way for Bellarmine as he went undefeated again with a perfect 3-0 record. The Prospect, KY native defeated Kimelman 6-4, 6-2, Campbell 6-4, 2-6, 12-10 and Totorica 6-3, 6-2. Parkins was also effective in singles action, going 2-1 with wins over Hayward 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 10-5 and Grossman 6-2, 6-2.
