LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Head coach Doug Davenport and the Bellarmine men's basketball team inked five players Wednesday on National Signing Day. The 2026-27 signing class includes four guards and one forward with two players coming from Kentucky and three from Indiana.

"This class fits the things we value most in recruiting—character, competitiveness and versatility," Davenport said. "All five come from great families and great high school coaches. They are exactly the kind of guys we can build around to compete at the top of the ASUN."

Mason Darrell – G – 6'2" – Crown Point, Ind. (Crown Point)
Darrell earned IBCA Underclass All-State Honorable Mention and Duneland Athletic All-Conference nods following his junior season. He scored 23 points in just 17 minutes of playing time in the Indiana Class 4A State Championship semifinals this past March.

Davenport on Darrell: "Mason is one of the most fiercely competitive high school players I've ever seen. He always plays with a relentless motor and is a natural born leader who will do whatever it takes to win. He plays for the legendary Clint Swan, who has Crown Point ranked preseason No. 1 in Indiana. We are thrilled to bring Mason into the program."

Evan Harrell – F – 6'8" – Carmel, Ind. (Carmel)
Harrell averaged 10.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists during his junior campaign at Carmel, the same high school that produced current Knight Brian Waddell. As a sophomore, he was recognized by the IBCA as Underclass All-State Honorable Mention after shooting 49 percent from the field and averaging 5.5 rebounds.

Davenport on Harrell: "Evan plays for one of the top programs in Indiana at Carmel where he has been coached by Ryan Osborn. Evan has the combination of length and versatility that we covet while being able to play and defend multiple positions. We know his best basketball is ahead of him and we can't wait to help get him there."

Brady Klopfenstein – G – 6'6" – Terre Haute, Ind. (Terre Haute North Vigo)
Klopfenstein helped THNVHS to their first regional title since 1999 last season, averaging a team-high 11 points per game. A three-point sharpshooter, Klopfenstein was also named All-Conference Indiana as a junior. Additionally, he plays doubles tennis for the Patriots.

Davenport on Klopfenstein: "Brady caught our eye in the spring. He is one of the top shooters in Indiana in this class and brings great length, feel and basketball IQ. Brady is just scratching the surface of his potential. Terre Haute North will compete at the top of 4A in Indiana."

DeMarcus Surratt – G – 6'3" – Lexington, Ky. (Frederick Douglass)
Surratt helped Frederick Douglass to a 25-5 record and the 11th region championship game last season, averaging 15.9 points and 4.3 rebounds. He made the Herald-Leader's All-City Boys First Team, garnering the second-most votes and a pair of votes for top player, as well as the Courier Journal's All-State Third Team as a junior. Surratt led the Kentucky Junior All-Stars with 27 points, hitting 5 of 8 threes, when they took down Indiana 119-108 this past June.

Davenport on Surratt: "Demarcus is as athletic as any player we've ever brought into the program. His upside is through the roof. The only thing more impressive than his athleticism is his character and we are thrilled to bring a person of his caliber into the program. He comes from one of the best high school programs in Kentucky has been coached by Murray Garvin, who we have known for a long time. We can't wait to get him in a Bellarmine jersey."

Roland Swan – G – 6'5" – Louisville, Ky. (Christian Academy)
Swan was named the Courier Journal's Boys Athlete of the Week after dropping 40 points on 16-for-21 shooting against Manual last February and was later named to the 28th District Boys All-Tournament Team after helping CAL to a 20-point win over Eastern. Roland averaged 8.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and shot 65.5 percent from the field (38 percent from three) as a junior.

Davenport on Swan: "Roland is a Bellarmine basketball legacy, which is really cool. He was a camper here in his youth and he's going to get to play in Knights Hall just like his dad, Andy. Roland is the ultimate team-first competitor and cares about winning more than anything else. Similar to Evan, Roland has the size, length and versatility to play multiple positions."
