11/13/2025 10:51:00 AM

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine University cross country will compete in its second-ever NCAA I Southeast Regional Championship — and first under the stewardship of Emma Petersen — on Friday at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Virginia.

Hosted by the University of Virginia, the meet will begin at 10 a.m. (ET) with the women's 6k race while the men's 10k race will follow at 11 a.m. Bellarmine's men will be trekking that distance for the first time this season, but the Knights women do have one 6k under their belts.

In addition to host Virginia and Bellarmine, the Southeast Regional will be comprised of Appalachian State, Campbell, Charleston Southern, Clemson, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Davidson, Duke, East Carolina, Eastern Kentucky, Elon, Furman, Gardner-Webb, George Mason, Hampton, High Point, James Madison, Liberty, Longwood, Morehead State, Murray State, Norfolk State, North Carolina A&T State, North Carolina Central, NC State, Northern Kentucky, Presbyterian, Queens, Radford, South Carolina State, The Citadel, UNC Charlotte, UNC Greensboro, Kentucky, Louisville, UNC Asheville, UNC Wilmington, North Carolina, Richmond, USC Upstate, South Carolina, Virginia Commonwealth, VMI, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Wake Forest, Western Carolina, Western Kentucky, William & Mary, Winthrop and Wofford.

For Bellarmine, the Southeast Regional follows the Oct. 31 ASUN Championship at Cecil Field in Jacksonville, Florida. Not only did redshirt junior Alex Hooten land third-team All-ASUN honors after placing 20th, his 23:56.1 set a new men's program record in the 8k, breaking the longstanding mark of Bellarmine Athletics Hall of Famer and three-time D2 All-American Chris Striegel (23:59.04).

Bellarmine's men had three performances that ranked in their top 50 all-time in the 8k at the ASUN Championship. In addition to Hooten, junior Chase Austin tied for the 26th-fastest 8k ever (24:44.6) while placing 33rd, and sophomore Salah Farah recorded the 48th-best time in program history (24:54.6) while placing 35th. Hooten (first), Austin (ninth), Farah (12th) and freshman Jared Fairbanks (17th) administered a significant rewriting of the program's 8k performance list.

On the women's side at the ASUN Championship, senior Sierra Oesterling recorded her eighth all-time top 50 mark in the women's 5k after placing a team-best 36th in 17:55.0, which tied for the 16th-best mark in program history.
