Volleyball falls on the road at Eastern Kentucky

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Bellarmine University volleyball team began its final road trip of the year with an instate Atlantic Sun match at Eastern Kentucky, falling 3-0 at the Olympic Sports Training Center on Friday night.

With the loss, Bellarmine (11-14, 5-8 ASUN) is looking to hold on to the final spot playoff spot in the ASUN standings while Eastern Kentucky (18-7, 10-3 ASUN) is in control at the top of the leader board.

Senior Kylie Van Hoy led the Knights with a near triple-double effort, turning in 18 assists, 15 digs and eight kills, hitting .294 while adding an ace. The effort marked her team-best 10th double-double of the season. Sophomore Payton Parsons led the defensive effort, recording a match-high 16 digs, adding four assists. Junior Natalie Bland was the second ranking Knight on offense, registering seven kills in the match with six digs.

EKU freshman Addison Burke tallied a match-high 13 kills, hitting .333 with eight digs, two aces and an assist to lead the Colonels.

As a team, EKU topped the Knights in every category recording more kills (44-30), assists (37-27), aces (6-2), digs (53-48) and blocks (9.0-1.0).

Bellarmine did itself no favors in the match, tallying 34 errors with 22 coming on the attack.

Up next, Bellarmine will end its final road trip of the regular season in Florida as the Knights take on FGCU on Sunday, November 9.
