Men's basketball welcomes Chattanooga for final home nonconference game

12/16/2025 3:27:00 PM

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Bellarmine men's basketball team will take on a member of the Southern Conference for the third time this season when they welcome Chattanooga to Knights Hall on Wednesday night. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.

Bellarmine (4-6, NET No. 276) split its first two matchups against the SoCon, falling at home to Wofford on November 15, but earning a 70-58 win at The Citadel on November 24. Those two games were arranged via the scheduling alliance between the ASUN and SoCon, while Chattanooga's visit was arranged between the two programs.

About Chattanooga
Chattanooga (5-6, NET No. 295) comes to the Highlands losers of their last three games against Division I opponents. The Mocs were within two points of NET No. 33 Auburn at 54-52 with 14:27 to go Saturday at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, but a 12-0 Tigers run created separation that UTC was not able to overcome in a 92-78 loss. Overall, they own wins over two Division I opponents, at South Carolina State (NET No. 363) and at home against North Alabama (NET No. 249), the latter game coming as a part of the ASUN and SoCon scheduling alliance. Their other ASUN/SoCon matchup was a 91-73 loss at Florida Gulf Coast.

Junior guard Jordan Frison leads the team averaging 13.5 points and 4.0 assists and has scored 20 in each of the last two games. Graduate guard Teddy Washington Jr. provides scoring (11.1 points) and rebounding (3.9) while leading the team averaging 1.3 steals. Former Bellarmine Knight Billy Smith is third on the team averaging 10.3 points. The Mocs feature two players shooting better than .460 from deep in Frison (14-for-30, .467) and freshman guard Tate Darner (24-for-49, .490).

The Mocs have been efficient on offense this season. They top the SoCon in three-point percentage (.360, 90th nationally), assist/turnover ratio (1.75, 23rd nationally), assists per game (17.4, 50th nationally) and free throw percentage (74.6, 85th nationally). Defensively, they allow 71.1 points per game, 3rd in the SoCon.

UTC was picked as the preseason favorites this season after a historic 29-9 campaign last year that included another former Knight, Bash Wieland, on their roster. The Mocs won the SoCon in the regular season before capturing the NIT title in an 85-84 overtime thriller against UC Irvine. Chattanooga is led by 2025 SoCon Coach of the Year Dan Earl, now in his fourth season.

Versus Chattanooga
The Mocs have won both previous meetings with Bellarmine. They walked out of Freedom Hall with a 77-68 victory in December 2020 and earned a 72-64 triumph at The McKenzie Arena in November 2023. The 2020 game was the Knights' first home game as a Division I team as Pedro Bradshaw and Dylan Penn combined to go 18-for-32 (.563) from the field and scored 41 of the Knights 68 points.

Knights Knotes
  • Bellarmine leads the ASUN and ranks 13th nationally with their .518 field goal percentage. They also lead the ASUN and rank 3rd nationally with their .802 free throw percentage. Additionally, Bellarmine has raised their 3-point percentage from .294 after their first four games to .348 after going 47-for-122 (.385) over their last six games.
  • Brian Waddell and Jack Karasinski have twice this season each scored 20-plus points in the same game. The duo combined to go 15-for-27 (.556) and score 46 points on November 15 against Wofford. They also combined to go 16-for-23 (.696) from the field and 4-for-8 from three on December 6 at Murray State.
  • Bellarmine is looking to snap a two-game skid. The Knights have yet to lose three straight this season. A win would mark the Knights' third nonconference victory over a Division I opponent after previously defeating The Citadel and Houston Christian.
