NASHVILLE, Tenn. —
Hope Sivori made history.
But even more importantly, the senior guard helped author the latest chapter of unprecedented success for the Bellarmine University women's basketball team.
On Thursday night in Allen Arena, Sivori broke the single-season program record for 3-pointers made in a dazzling shooting display, and in the process, the Knights established a new ceiling for Atlantic Sun Conference wins in a critical 86-79 overtime triumph over Lipscomb.
Sivori piled up a game-high 27 points for Bellarmine (15-11, 6-7 ASUN), which secured its program-record sixth ASUN victory after already shattering the previous highwater mark for total wins in the D1 era. Sivori entered the contest needing to hit six 3-pointers to break Allison Matheis' single-season record of 74 (2011-12), and the Louisville native did that and more after burying seven triples.
But she certainly wasn't alone.
Senior forward
Skylar Treadwell was practically flawless while hitting 6-of-8 shots from the floor and all seven chances from the free-throw line in registering 19 points with 15 rebounds, a career-high six assists and two blocks. It was her sixth double-double this season. Junior guard
Miyah Brown recorded her second double-double of the year after amassing 16 points and a career-high 13 rebounds, and senior guard
Hayley Harrison contributed 14 points against Lipscomb (15-9, 8-5), which entered 11-2 at home.
Bellarmine dominated in overtime, outscoring Lipscomb 16-9 in the extra session while hitting half of its eight shots and 7-of-8 from the FT line. It was Sivori's seventh 3-pointer of the night — just one shy of the career high she set this season against Jacksonville — that gave the Knights the lead for good.
That triple, with a little over two minutes left in overtime, broke a 70-all tie. Treadwell canned a pair of free throws to push the lead to five and, after the Bisons went 1-of-2 from the charity stripe, junior guard
Erin Toller snaked through the lane for a layup and 81-75 advantage with 53 seconds left to help seal the deal.
It was nip-and-tuck throughout, as the biggest lead in regulation time was only six points. Treadwell whipped a pass to Brown for a game-tying backdoor layup with 48 seconds left in the fourth, and the teams eventually headed to overtime after the Bisons missed a 3 at the buzzer.
Bellarmine will host Eastern Kentucky at 1 p.m. (ET) Saturday. Fans are encouraged to wear pink, as it's the Knights' Play4Kay game.
