Men's falls in tight 4-3 contest at Xavier

CINCINNATI, Oh. – Bellarmine men's tennis opened its three-match week at Xavier University on Thursday afternoon, dropping a tightly contested match 4-3 to the Musketeers at the Camargo Racquet Club.

Senior Jack Batchelor and junior Matthew Nice got the Knights rolling early with a 6-1 victory in No. 1 doubles. Xavier, however, would go on to win at both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles courts to secure the point.

In singles, Batchelor notched his second win of the day on court one, defeating Ryan Cahill 6-3, 6-4 before Matthew Nice followed suit with a win of his own at No. 3 singles, a 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) victory over Alex Kotarski. Junior Eli Wood leveled the match at 3-3 with his 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles.

Down to the final match on court two, junior Vineet Ramesh won the first set 6-4, before falling 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).

Up next, Bellarmine will return home for a pair of matches against Centre and Holy Cross on Saturday, March 1.
