Men's tennis sweeps doubleheader against Centre and Holy Cross

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Bellarmine University men's tennis team got back in the win column on Saturday, defeating Centre 7-0 and Holy Cross 5-2 at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.

With the wins, the Knights improve to 4-5 on the season.

Against Centre, all three Bellarmine doubles pairings earned wins to secure the team point. On court one, Matthew Nice and Eli Wood won 6-4 with Vineet Ramesh and Brent Reynolds winning 6-1 on court two and Diego Martinez and Louie Fletcher winning 6-0 on court three.

The Knights continued to have success on the court in singles with all six players earning a win. Martinez, making his dual debut, pulled out a tough 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 win on court six to go 2-0 on the day. The other five Knights all won their matches in two sets.

In the second match of the day against Holy Cross, Bellarmine had some work to do after doubles. The Saints earned 7-5 and 7-6 wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to take the team point and an early 1-0 lead.

Moving to singles, Jack Batchelor got Bellarmine on the board with a 6-2, 6-0 win on court one to even the score at 1-1. Nice kept the momentum flowing at No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 win to give the Knights the lead at 2-1.

From there, Bellarmine never looked back, securing wins from Wood, Ramesh and Fletcher to go up 5-1.

Holy Cross added a final point with a 7-6, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles, but the match was already secured by the Knights, taking a 5-2 victory.

Nice and Wood led the Knights on the day, going undefeated with four wins each.

Up next, Bellarmine will open Atlantic Sun Conference play on March 14, traveling to Nashville, TN for a match against Lipscomb.
