Women's basketball edged by Stetson in overtime

Sivori flirts with triple-double, Treadwell pours in 23 points

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Senior guard Hope Sivori was near a triple-double, and senior forward Skylar Treadwell was close to setting a new career high in scoring.

Unfortunately for the Bellarmine University women's basketball team, that's also how the final outcome played out Saturday afternoon in Knights Hall, as BU came up just short while being edged 87-84 in overtime by Stetson in Atlantic Sun Conference action.

Sivori's stat line was bursting with 22 points, a season-high nine assists, seven rebounds and a career-high-tying five steals for Bellarmine (14-11, 5-7 ASUN). Facing her former team in Stetson (13-11, 7-5), Treadwell finished just one point shy of matching a career best with 23 points.

Bellarmine had a chance to take a four-point lead with 14 seconds left in regulation time but missed the free throw. Stetson's Tyra Myers followed by sinking a game-tying 3-pointer and, following a timeout, the Knights couldn't convert a good look in the paint as the game went to overtime.

The extra session ultimately turned into a free-throw shooting contest. The last 15 points came from the charity stripe. Senior guard Hayley Harrison, who tallied her first double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds, canned seven straight freebies at one point, the last of which inched the Knights ahead 84-83 with 1:05 left.

Myers swung the lead back to Stetson's favor with a pair of free throws and, after a pair of Bellarmine misses from long range, Mary McMillan hit 1-of-2 from the line to bump the Hatters' advantage to 86-84 with just under 30 seconds left.

The teams then exchanged turnovers, with Sivori's fifth steal giving Bellarmine another chance. A potential go-ahead 3-pointer was on target but fell short. Then, after Stetson went 1-for-2 from the line, a desperation heave to tie as time expired was off line.

Bellarmine led by 10 midway through the second quarter, but Stetson rallied to take a 33-32 lead at halftime. The Hatters also led by one point after three quarters despite the Knights going up by six multiple times in the period.

Bellarmine led by five with less than four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter before the contest went into overtime.

Bellarmine will play at 6 p.m. (ET) Thursday at Lipscomb.
