CLARKSVILLE, Tn. – Bellarmine men's tennis returned to action after a nearly two-week hiatus, narrowly falling 4-3 at Lipscomb in its first Atlantic Sun Conference match of the season on Friday afternoon.
With the loss, Bellarmine moves to 4-6 overall and open ASUN play 0-1.
The Knights got off on the right foot, securing the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead.
Eli Wood and
Louie Fletcher took a 6-4 win on court one, followed by a 6-3 victory on court three, thanks to
Jack Batchelor and
Brent Reynolds, to earn the point.
In singles play, Lipscomb answered with the first two wins on courts six and five to jump ahead 2-1.
Batchelor got the Knight moving back in the right direction with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles to even the score 2-2.
Lipscomb answered once again with two more singles win on courts two and three, clinching the match with four points.
Wood closed the match with another point for the Knights after taking a win by retirement at No. 4 singles.
Up next, Bellarmine will return to the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex for its first home ASUN match as the Knights host North Alabama on Sunday, March 16.
