LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Bellarmine men's tennis halted its four-match losing streak on Friday afternoon, cashing in its first ASUN win of the season with a 4-3 victory over Queens at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.
With the win, the Knights improve to 5-9 on the season and 1-3 in Atlantic Sun Conference play.
Bellarmine got on the board first after securing the doubles point.
Jack Batchelor and
Brent Reynolds got the first doubles win on court three with a 6-2 victory.
Matthew Nice and
Vineet Ramesh clinched the point at No. 2 doubles after defeating their opponents 6-4. Court one went unfished in a 5-5 tie after the doubles point was clinched by the Knights.
Singles play was much more of a contested affair. Wood got the first singles win for Bellarmine on court four, winning 6-2, 6-4. Ramesh followed shortly after with a win of his, also taking down his opponent in two sets, winning 6-4, 6-2 to put the Knights up 3-0.
From there, Queens rattled off two singles wins of its own, taking victories at No. 2 and No.5 singles to cut the deficit to one at 3-2.
Louie Fletcher, playing on court six, clinched the match win for Bellarmine after taking down his opponent 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
The Royals closed out the singles session with one final win on court one, but the Knights had already clinched the match.
Up next, Bellarmine will close out the weekend with another home match, hosting Eastern Kentucky on Sunday, March 30.
