LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Bellarmine faceoff specialist
Cole Messick on Thursday was named to the United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division I Team of the Week, the organization announced.
The Cambridge, Md., native matched career highs last Saturday against Queens by winning 17 of 24 faceoffs (.708) and picking up eight ground balls. The senior helped key a furious Knights comeback in the fourth quarter, winning 7 of 10 faceoffs to help Bellarmine outscore the Royals 7-2 and earn a 11-10 win to secure their spot in today's semifinal round of the ASUN Championship.
Messick is the third Knight to be honored by USILA this season, joining fellow faceoff specialist
Aidan Fearn and attack
John Alie. Before this season, the Knights had not had a player on the USILA D-I Team of the Week since 2018.
Messick has appeared in all 16 games for Bellarmine, winning a career-high 91 of 165 faceoffs. His .552 faceoff win percentage is also a career high and second-best in the ASUN among those who have taken at least 100 faceoffs.
Bellarmine faces Utah today at Rock Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla., at 1 p.m. ET. Live coverage will be provided by ESPN+.
