NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A 1-1 draw between the Bellarmine University and Belmont men's soccer teams isn't an inevitable outcome, but it sure is starting to feel that way.
For the third time in the last four seasons, the Knights and Bruins battled to a 1-1 deadlock, this time Tuesday night at E.S. Rose Park.
After a scoreless first half, Belmont (3-0-1) struck first as Riley Clothier converted a header off a free kick from Brad Dildy in the 62nd minute.
It didn't take Bellarmine (1-1-2) long to equalize. In the 68th minute, redshirt sophomore defender
Sam Safly lofted a long chip inside the box. Redshirt senior midfielder
Jackson Marks outscrapped two Belmont defenders to gather the ball and slid past a third to fire off a clean look from 7 yards that found the back of the net.
Marks' first career goal came one game after he distributed his first career assist. Neither team yielded much thereafter as the contest ended in yet another 1-1 stalemate between the two, the same result as last season and in 2022.
For the most part, the defenses dominated. The teams combined for a mere 10 shots, with Belmont holding a 6-4 advantage, and corner kicks were even at three apiece.
Bellarmine will play at 2 p.m. (ET) Saturday at UNC Asheville.
