INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. –
Geriann Ackermann notched her first career top-10 finish Tuesday at the Butler Fall Invitational. The sophomore tied for 10th out of 82 golfers at Highland Golf & Country Club for the best finish of her young career through 10 events.
The Assumption product improved each round, culminating with a -2 (68) in the final round Tuesday. The 68 marked the first round under par by a Knight this season and the best round by a Knight this season by strokes, besting
Rozlyn Rooke's +1 (73) in the final round at A-Ga-Ming.
Ackermann led the Knights by holing seven birdies, sixth-most at the event. She also averaged 2.83 strokes on par 3s, tied for the lowest average.
Rooke returned to action after missing the Total Athlete Collegiate and tied for 29
th, finishing with a pair of 75s. Her and freshman
Taylor Dunkle, making her first career start, each holed four birdies.
Marian University, a Division II program who was not receiving any votes in the latest WGCA poll, surprisingly earned the team medal at +29, six strokes better than second-place Akron. Marian, located just a 10-minute drive from Highland in Indianapolis, carded an even-par 280 in the second round, the best team round at the event by nine strokes. Bellarmine placed 11th and posted a team-best +18 (298) in the third round.
Dayton's Kylee Heidemann and Akron's Maisarah Hezri tied for the lead at +1 after three rounds. Heidemann went on to win the individual medal after four playoff holes.
