ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Bellarmine University field hockey team suffered a 13-0 loss Sunday afternoon to No. 7 Michigan at Phyllis Ocker Field.
Any positive momentum gained by battling nearby Michigan State in a close match on Friday unfortunately did not carry over Sunday against the defending Big Ten champions.
Michigan (2-1) struck first just 5:32 into the game when Maxine Rogge beat Knights senior keeper
Kailey Workman with a roller from the top of the circle on a busted penalty corner play.
Bellarmine (0-4) would not be granted any of that same fortune as Michigan went on to score six first-half goals.
The Knights' best chance came on a penalty corner in the final seconds before the break.
Skylar Sokal fired the Knights' only shot of the game, but it missed wide right.
Playing in their home opener, Michigan would add seven more scores in the second half en route to matching Division II No. 1 Indiana (PA) in 2008 for the most goals ever by a Bellarmine opponent.
The Wolverines were led by Dru Moffett's three goals. Abby Tamer and Payton Maloney each netted two goals. Juliett Manzur, Maxine Rogge and Kelsey Reviello each handed out two assists.
Michigan outshot the Knights 40-1 and held a 10-1 advantage in penalty corners.
The Knights return to Trager Stadium on Friday to face Saint Louis at noon ET.
