Women's tennis eyes three match weekend

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Bellarmine University women's tennis team is set for a full weekend of competition, playing three matches in three days, first traveling to Western Kentucky before coming home to host University of the Cumberlands and Marshall.

Head coach Brian Slack's team will begin the journey on Thursday, January 15 with a quick trip to Bowling Green, KY for a dual against WKU (0-0). The match will take place inside at the Warren County Tennis Facility at Michael O. Buchanon Park with a 2 pm E.T. start time.

Since 2006-07, Bellarmine and Western Kentucky have met seven times on the court with the Hilltoppers takin the win in all seven meetings. The last time the two schools faced off was January 14, 2023 in Louisville with WKU narrowly edging the Knights, 4-3. Thursday's match will mark just the second time Bellarmine has made the trip to Bowling Green with the last six meetings all coming at home.

From there, the Knights will come back home to host two matches on Saturday, January 17 at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex. First, Bellarmine will take on University of the Cumberlands (0-0) at 9:30 am E.T. before closing out the day against Marshall (0-0) at 4 pm E.T.

BU and Cumberlands have met nine times in the all-time series with the Knights owning a 9-0 advantage over the Patriots. The two schools met in Louisville last season with Bellarmine taking a 6-1 win.
The Knights will be taking on Marshall for the sixth time in series history with the Thundering Herd holding a 6-0 record all-time. Bellarmine made the trip to Huntington, WV last season, dropping a 6-1 contest. The last time Marshall came to Louisville was January 25, 2024, leaving with a 4-0 victory.

In their first action of the spring, the Knights traveled to Auburn University for a doubleheader against the No. 4 team in the country, dropping both matches 7-0 and 4-0, respectively.

Overall, Bellarmine is 4-2 this season in duals and is 4-0 in the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex. WKU and Cumberlands will be playing its first dual of the season when facing off against Bellarmine while Marshall is set to take on Eastern Kentucky on January 17 before arriving in Louisville.
