LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Jacksonville was able to turn up its play after the shorthanded Bellarmine University women's basketball team surged to within two possessions in the third quarter Saturday, as the Dolphins pulled away for a 73-49 win in Atlantic Sun Conference play in Knights Hall.
After trailing 36-21 at halftime, Bellarmine (2-19, 0-8 ASUN) opened the third quarter with a 9-0 run to get within six despite suiting up a mere six players — and only four who were on the original 2025-26 roster — due to a plague of injuries.
That spurt definitely got Jacksonville's attention. The Dolphins (12-7, 4-4) responded with a game-clinching 14-0 run over the next three minutes. Their harassing halfcourt defense produced 36 points off turnovers in the contest.
Redshirt junior forward
Andrea Chiquemba was two points shy of equaling a career high with 15 points for Bellarmine. Sophomore forward
Kayce Hyman matched her with 15 points, the fifth time in ASUN play she's recorded 14 points or more. Senior center
Patricia Sherrill tied a career high with 11 points.
Bellarmine concluded a season-long four-game homestand. The Knights will begin a four-game road swing with a 7 p.m. (ET) contest Thursday at Queens.
