CONWAY, Ark. – Something will have to give during Bellarmine men's basketball's upcoming journey following their four-game homestand. The Knights swept their four-game homestand and now carry their winning streak to the top two teams in the ASUN standings.
Bellarmine (11-13, 6-6 ASUN, NET No. 277) is set to face Central Arkansas (15-10, 10-2 ASUN, NET No. 177), currently second in the ASUN, on Wednesday. UCA has won eight in a row since back-to-back overtime road losses to the Knights and Eastern Kentucky last month. Austin Peay (17-6, 11-1 ASUN, NET No. 137) sits in first place and has won their last six. The Govs will host the Knights on Saturday.
About Central Arkansas
The Bears, currently tied for the 7th-longest current winning streak in Division I, have yet to lose in regulation in ASUN play. UCA will be playing their third game in five days when the Knights visit the Farris Center on Wednesday for their 7:30 p.m. (6:30 p.m. CT) tip. The Bears defeated Lipscomb on Saturday 86-78 and then North Alabama 72-65 on Monday, both on the road.
Camren Hunter leads the way averaging 22.1 points per game in ASUN play, third-best in the league. Hunter ranks 10th nationally with 180 field goals, though he is outside the top-100 with his .508 shooting percentage. Ty Robinson is 16th in league play at 14.3 points per game. The Bears feature four players in the top-25 in rebounding during league play: Robinson (5.8 per game), Javion Guy-King (5.1), Hunter (4.8) and Malchiah Marable (4.7).
UCA is third during conference play both averaging 83.8 points per game on offense and allowing 73.9 points per game on defense. The Bears are fourth with their plus-2.1 rebounding margin.
Versus the Bears
Bellarmine beat UCA 84-78 in overtime in their first meeting this season on January 8 in Knights Hall, improving to 5-2 all-time against the Bears.
Kenyon Goodin went for a team-high 20 points on 8-for-16 shooting. The last Knights win in the series before January 8 came at Freedom Hall on February 22, 2024 and featured a buzzer-beating three-pointer by
Ben Johnson to lift Bellarmine, 68-65.
About Austin Peay
The Governors have faltered just once in ASUN play, an 82-78 road loss at Lipscomb on January 17 that featured eight ties and 26 lead changes. Still, they bounced back to beat Lipscomb 87-76 last Wednesday, improving their record at F&M Bank Arena to a sparkling 11-0 entering their Saturday tilt with Bellarmine.
Collin Parker, the reigning ASUN Player of the Week, has had his fair share of hot and cold games—a line graph of the Columbia College (NAIA) transfer's point totals looks like the most daredevil of rollercoasters. Still, the forward has scored no fewer than 25 points in each of the Govs' last four games, connecting on 39 of 66 attempts (.591) from the floor and 25 of 28 free throws (.893) in that span. He leads APSU overall in ASUN play averaging 18.7 points while Zyree Collins (15.3) and Rashaud Marshall (14.4) sit behind him. Parker and Collins, a freshman point guard, combined for 53 points against UNA. Marshall is 2nd in ASUN play shooting at a .716 clip, though his streak of double-digit points was snapped on Monday after eight games.
As a team, the Govs are shooting .384 from beyond the arc in league play, third behind Bellarmine and Lipscomb, and are 2nd in holding ASUN opponents to .323 from deep.
APSU will first put their six-game winning streak on the line at Queens on Wednesday before the Knights' visit Clarksville on for a 5:30 p.m. ET (4:30 p.m. CT) tip on Saturday.
Versus the Governors
Bellarmine is 8-14 all-time against Austin Peay and 2-3 since joining the ASUN. The teams split two meetings last season. The Govs first took an 86-77 overtime decision at F&M before the Knights blasted them 94-68 in Knights Hall.
Jack Karasinski sank 8 of 10 shots in the latter for 23 points to lift Bellarmine over APSU despite 31 points from 2024-25 ASUN Freshman of the Year Tate McCubbin. The victory snapped a three-game skid to the Govs that included a pair of overtime losses.
