SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Visits to Notre Dame tend to bring out the best in the Bellarmine University track and field men's milers.
And the same can be said for freshman
Caysie Brady.
On Saturday in the Loftus Sports Center, Brady secured a new women's program record in the weight throw while senior
Alex Hooten threatened one of the men's program's most hallowed indoor records in the same venue in which it was set — the 4:01.20 recorded by Robert Sandlin in the "Meyo Mile" at the 2014 Notre Dame Meyo Invitational.
Hooten flirted with the historic mark, placing first in the event at the Alex Wilson Invitational in 4:04.82 as the Knights completed the regular season.
Brady, meanwhile, continued her ascent in the weight throw, not only enhancing her own freshman program record but also establishing a new overall program record with her toss of 17.03m, which topped Ally Kluender's 16.67m throw from the 2021 Kentucky Collegiate Indoor Invitational. Brady's previous best was 16.43m. She was the runner-up in the event.
Bellarmine, which brought a small contingent of athletes to Notre Dame, will host the ASUN Indoor Championship on Feb. 27-28 at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center.
