LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Bellarmine on Thursday night at Knights Hall earned their third straight win in conference play with a 91-72 thrashing of visiting Stetson.
For Bellarmine (10-13, 5-6 ASUN), the win gives them their first three-game winning streak against Division I opponents since capturing the 2022 ASUN Championship in Freedom Hall. The Knights set themselves up to, with a win against Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday, win four straight for the first time against opponents of any level since earlier in 2021-22 season when they won five straight ASUN games. A win would also give them six ASUN wins to match their total in the previous two seasons combined.
For the game, Bellarmine shot 61.0 percent—their highest mark since a 63.2 percent shooting performance in an 85-63 win over Central Arkansas on January 11, 2022—and 56.0 percent from beyond the arc, their best since shooting 60.0 percent (9 for 15) on January 18 last season in a loss at Eastern Kentucky. The 21-point win was their largest against a Division I opponent since walloping Austin Peay 94-68 on February 18 of last season.
Stetson (8-16, 4-7 ASUN) jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead, but it would be all Bellarmine from there.
Bellarmine put together a 15-7 run to go up 17-9, forcing an early Stetson timeout, after starting 7 for 9 from the field and hitting three of their first four threes. Eight of those first 17 points came from
Jack Karasinski, who finished the first half with 18 points to eclipse his 17.4 points-per-game average in ASUN play entering Thursday.
The Knights led 47-35 at the break after drilling 9 of 13 from beyond the arc (69.2 percent). The 47 points were the most Bellarmine has scored in a first half this season. Stetson shot 50.0 percent in the first half, but Bellarmine used seven Hatters turnovers for seven points to help build their 12-point lead.
The second half would bring much of the same as the first, though the Knights cooled slightly, shooting just 60.0 percent and 41.7 percent from three. The Hatters would cut the deficit to nine twice in the opening 70 seconds, but get no closer as Bellarmine outscored their visitors 45-36 in the second half on their way to a 92-71 win.
Karasinski finished with 26 points, two shy of matching his career high. The senior forward hit a career-high 6 of 8 threes and 9 of 14 field goals overall. He now has 982 career points, 202 at William & Mary and 780 at Bellarmine.
Brian Waddell scored 11 points and
Tyler Doyle added 12 on 6-for-12 shooting while matching a career high with 8 rebounds and handing out 6 assists.
Kenyon Goodin was also in double figures with 10.
Ethan Copeland scored 18 for the Hatters, hitting 6 of 14 threes. He was joined in double digits by Jake Johnson (17 points) and Calvin Sirmans III (10).
Next up, Bellarmine welcomes Florida Gulf Coast for a 2 p.m. ET tip on Saturday.
