LOUISVILLE, Ky. – As Bellarmine University celebrates its 75th anniversary and its continued rise in NCAA Division I athletics, the university has completed a phase of enhancements to its baseball and softball facilities, further strengthening the student-athlete experience and preparing both venues for an exciting spring season.

The comprehensive phase of improvements at Knights Field – now fully complete – include upgraded outfield fencing on both fields, new vinyl fence coverings featuring Bellarmine branding, and new LED scoreboards designed to enhance game-day visibility and fan engagement.

Significant infrastructure enhancements were also completed to support ESPN broadcasts, including upgraded communication and electrical systems at both venues. These improvements position Bellarmine to continue showcasing its programs on a national stage while delivering a high-quality broadcast experience.

On the field, both infields were regraded to improve playability and drainage, and both fields received overseeding and fertilization to ensure optimal playing conditions. Softball added increased storage space to better support team operations, while baseball introduced a new replay system and pitch clocks to align with current game standards.

Scott Wiegandt, Bellarmine's director of athletics, said the improvements are part of a long-range vision for improvements to Knights Field when new donor funds become available. Those plans include new dugouts with restrooms, new backstops, batting cages, a press box, upgraded spectator seating, and more.

"The recent baseball facility upgrades are a testament to what happens when a community rallies around a vision," said Benjamin Reel, head baseball coach. "I want to sincerely thank our donors and our administration for their partnership and belief in what we're building. These upgrades strengthen our program today and position us for sustained success moving forward."

"These enhancements reflect a shared commitment to providing our student-athletes with the resources they need to compete at the highest level," said Whitney Arion, head softball coach. "We are incredibly grateful to the donors and university leadership who helped make this project possible. From improved field conditions to upgraded branding and infrastructure, our facility now reflects the standard we expect in our program. With the season underway, we're excited to welcome our fans into a space that truly represents Bellarmine Softball."

The facility enhancements align with the university's comprehensive $75 million campaign, launched in honor of Bellarmine's 75th anniversary. Through the Athletics Excellence pillar, the campaign supports upgrades that strengthen school spirit, enhance student-athlete experiences, and position Bellarmine for continued success in NCAA Division I competition. Gifts to support future Knights Field improvements are welcome.
