LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University men's tennis team turned in a strong showing Tuesday at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex, sweeping Campbellsville 6-0 before closing the day with a 4-3 victory over IU Indy.
Bellarmine controlled the morning match from the outset against Campbellsville, securing the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Eli Wood and Ryan Parkins earned a 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Matthew Nice and Colby Berson followed with a 6-3 win on court two to give the Knights early momentum.
The Knights carried that energy into singles play, sweeping the first five courts in straight sets to complete the shutout. Nice led the way at No. 1 singles with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory, while Wood (6-1, 6-0), Parkins (6-2, 7-6), Zak Vince (6-3, 6-2) and Berson (6-3, 6-1) each added wins to seal the result.
Nice's win in the opening match also marked a milestone moment, as the senior recorded his 100th career victory with the straight-set performance on court one.
Bellarmine returned to the courts later in the day to face IU Indy and once again jumped in front by claiming the doubles point. Wood and Parkins posted a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles, and Nice and Berson secured a 6-2 victory at No. 2 to give the Knights a 1-0 edge.
In singles, Bellarmine collected wins on three courts to clinch the narrow team victory. Nice earned his second singles win of the day with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) result at No. 1, while Parkins battled to a three-set victory at No. 3 (6-1, 2-6, 6-4). Berson rounded out the scoring with a straight-set win on court five (6-3, 6-2).
Up Next: Bellarmine travels to Indianapolis on Friday for a matchup at Butler before returning to Louisville to face the Cardinals Sunday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
