LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine men's tennis team dropped a pair of matches over the weekend, falling 4-3 at Butler on Friday before a 4-0 loss at No. 50 Louisville on Sunday.
Against Butler, the Knights were edged in a tightly contested match that came down to the final singles decisions. Bellarmine claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2, as Eli Wood and Ryan Parkins earned a 7-6 victory while Matthew Nice and Colby Berson secured a 6-4 win.
In singles play, the Knights picked up wins from Nice and Wood. Nice battled through a three-set match at No. 1, winning 7-6, 2-6, 6-4, while Wood added a straight-set victory at No. 2, 7-6, 6-0. However, Butler was able to claim the remaining singles points to narrowly secure the 4-3 result.
Bellarmine returned to action Sunday against Louisville, facing a strong Cardinals squad. Louisville claimed the doubles point and secured the match with straight set wins at multiple singles positions to earn a 4-0 victory.
Next out the Knights will host Xavier at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. ET.
