Knights claim first Division I era tournament win at Chaney-Denham-Landrum Shootout

9/1/2026 10:35:00 AM

FLORENCE, In. — The Bellarmine University men's golf team opened its 2026-27 season in a huge way, earning the program's first team tournament win in the Division I era by capturing first place at the Chaney-Denham-Landrum Shootout on Monday.

Named in honor of Dr. Rex Chaney (Morehead State), Ernie Denham (Bellarmine) and Daryl Landrum (Northern Kentucky), the event pays homage to a legend of each team program.

For the Knights, it is the first national tournament named in honor of the program's longest tenured head coach, Ernie Denham.

Bellarmine hoisted the tournament trophy after rounds of 283 (-1) and 286 (+2), finishing the event at one-over par, six shots better than the second-place Norse and seven shots better than Morehead State.

Sophomore Max Terrell led the way for the Knights, firing rounds of 69-67 to shoot six-under for the event and claim the individual championship. He is just the second Knight to win individual medalist honors in the Division I era, joining Luke Bischoff who won the Austin Peay Intercollegiate in 2023.

Behind Terrell, junior Ben Davenport turned in a strong showing, tying for second in the event with two-under par finish (68-72).

Redshirt junior Graydon Laughlin saw his first tournament action since his freshman season and finished T16 after round of 75-72 (+5). Grad student Riley Jude Bender and redshirt junior Ben Wulkopf shared a tie for 17th after each going 73-75 for a +6 finish.

The Knights also saw great results from sophomore Landon Stillwell and freshman Brayden Carlisle, who played in the event as individuals. Stillwell also took a share of 17th after his rounds of 76-72 while Carlisle made the most of collegiate debut, placing tied for 10th after turning in a 71-73.
