LOUISVILLE, Ky.--The visiting Centre College Colonels spoiled senior night for the Bellarmine field hockey team by defeating the Knights 4-3 in their final home game of the season.  Bellarmine honored Samantha Biedron, Reghann Covert, Cassi Dalrymple and Sarah Flood before playing their final home game.

Bellarmine opened a 1-0 lead seven minutes into the contest when Ellen West collected a rebounded save and stuck it in the back of the cage for the Knights.  Centre responded just a minute and a half later when Barbara Parks tied it with her goal.

The Knights reclaimed the lead at 2-1 when West hit Samantha Biedron with a lengthy pass that the senior directed around Centre keeper Patty Cowley for the score.

The Colonels knotted the game at 2-2 at the 28:57 mark, and the teams settled for a tie at the half.

Coming out of halftime, both teams played competitively for the first 8:30 of the half before the Colonels erupted for two goals within a span of a minute and a half to take a 4-2 lead.

The Knights trimmed the lead to 4-3 with just under 12 minutes remaining in the game when Lauren Schmeing dribbled around a defender and found the goal.  The Knights could get no closer, however as Centre held on for the 1-goal victory.

The game was close throughout and the statistics reflect that.  Centre held a slim 14-11 edge in shots and a 5-4 advantage in penalty corners.  Both goalkeepers--Cowley and Bellarmine's Katie Lange--recorded six saves apiece.

Bellarmine's record pulls even at 8-8, while Centre improves to 10-3 on the season.

The Knights close out their 2009 campaign with a three-game road trip in Pennsylvania to face Slippery Rock, Seton Hill, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
