DANVILLE, Ky.—The No. 9 Bellarmine University field hockey team picked up a 1-0 victory over Centre College on Friday night behind a goal from
Emily West.
West scored her seventh goal of the season at the 14:42 mark when she took a pass from
Natalie Perry and knocked it past Centre goalkeeper Patty Cowley.
Coach Don Hubbuch, usually relies on the Knights high powered offense to carry the team, but tonight the credit goes to the defense. Senior goalkeeper
Samantha Biedron was credited with six saves on the night while the other defenders made life tough for the Centre offense.
Centre outshout Bellarmine 15-10 and had an 11-7 advantage in penalty corners.
The shutout is the fourth of the season for Bellarmine after blanking Limestone, Mercy and Trine earlier in the season.
WIth the victory the Knights tie the school record for victories in a season with 14.
The Knights will play their regular season finale on Sunday when they travel to St. Charles, Mo. for a 2 p.m. game at Lindenwood University.
