Romeoville, Ill.—The Bellarmine University men's soccer team went on the road to Lewis University and fell 2-1 this afternoon. The Knights controlled the pace throughout the game but only managed one goal by Grant Wheeler. (Bardstown, Ky., Bethlehem)

Bellarmine (4-2-1) came out looking to score early as Jack Binns (Goole, England, John Leggott College) knocked a shot off the crossbar just 43 seconds into the game.

The Flyers (4-3) got on the board first as Cristhian Ramirez shot off a cross slipped past Bellarmine goalie Matthew Soyka (Racine, Wisc., Case).

Both teams would not back down as Bellarmine's Cole Page (Louisville, Ky., Manual) and Arlind Kociu of Lewis were hit with yellow cards. The Knights could not connect on any of their chances and went into halftime down 1-0.

Lewis struck again at the 55:42 mark as forward Robens Decius shot the ball off the post and into the back of the net to take a 2-0 lead.

The Knights kept competing, however, and pulled to within 2-1 when Wheeler headed in a cross of a Brett Gregory (St. Louis, Mo., Mehlville ) corner kick.  The Knights owned a 13-2 advantage on corner kicks for the game.

The Knights had plenty of chances as they outshot the Flyers 15-10, getting four shots apiece from Bradley Barraclough (Lincoln, England, Lincoln College ) and Ross Hopkins (Skerries, Ireland, Colaiste Ide College ). This was Hopkins' first game back after missing the past two with a foot injury. Lewis goalie Sebastian Kieruzal was credited with six saves.

The Knights stay on the road as they travel to Kenosha, Wisc. on Sunday to take on the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. The match is set for 1 p.m.
