Knights drop back and forth battle to Rangers

LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- Bellarmine University volleyball dropped a back and forth match 25-19, 30-32, 24-26, 25-27 to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Friday night at Knights Hall in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest.
 
Bailey BredenbeckCorp paced the Knights offense with 51 assists to go along with three kills. Krista Gibson recorded a team-high 18 kills for Bellarmine.
 
The Knights controlled the opening set from the start, never relinquishing the lead after the opening serve to earn a 25-19 win. BredenbeckCorp led the way offensively with eight assists in the opening frame. Wisconsin-Parkside was held to a -.032 hitting percentage in the first set.
 
Bellarmine continued to look strong in a second set that featured 14 ties and four lead changes. After holding off five set points, a service error by Lucy Heidrich proved costly as the Knights could not gain another side out and dropped the set 32-30. Heidrich's service error was one of 16 on the night for Bellarmine.
 
Set three provided to be another back and forth battle. The Knights were outhit .282 to .102 and recorded nine errors. Bellarmine squandered an opportunity to stretch the match to a decisive fifth set when they lost a 24-21 advantage late in set four. The Knights reached a set-clinching opportunity after BredenbeckCorp's kill gave them a 25-24 lead. It would be the final tally for Bellarmine as Wisconsin-Parkside used three consecutive kills to take the set and the match.
 
Libero Jaclyn Ohlmann led the Knights' defensive effort with 25 digs. Alyson Harmeling (15) and Paula Byrns (13) contributed double figure kills for Bellarmine.
 
The Knights will return to action at home as they host 20th ranked Lewis University Saturday at 3 p.m.
