RENNSELAER, Ind. – The Bellarmine University Knights defeated the Pumas of St. Joseph's College 3-2 (25-17,25-23,24-26,21-25,15-10) on Friday night.
With the win, the Knights snapped a three game lose streak to advance to 12-10 (6-8 GLVC).
Bellarmine came out strong in the first two sets, but were unable to seal the deal in third set. The Pumas, aided by an aggressive offense, forced a fifth set to end the match. St. Joseph's had an unsuccessful offensive effort in the fifth match, with a .000 kill percentage, as Bellarmine ran away with the win.
The Knights offense was on key, with several contributors.
Paula Byrns led the attack with a match-high 21 kills. Teammates
Krista Gibson (17) and
Lucy Knott (16) also slammed double digit kills. Primary setter
Bailey BredenbeckCorp racked up 61 assists in the win.
Freshman libero
Jaclyn Ohlmann had a match-high 28 digs as she continued to shine on defense for the Knights.
The Knights continue their GLVC play Saturday afternoon against No. 23 ranked University of Indianapolis (17-6, 13-2 GLVC). First serve is set for 3:00 pm against the Greyhounds.
