INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Bellarmine University Knights fell in straight sets (17-25, 26-28, 21-25) to the No. 23 ranked University of Indianapolis Greyhounds on Saturday afternoon at the Ruth Lilly Center.
With the loss, the Knights fell to 12-11 (6-10 GLVC) on the season. The Greyhounds advanced to 18-6 (14-2 GLVC).
The Greyhounds jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first set, and the Knights were unable to gain control. Bellarmine led for much of the second set, but Indy came back to earn the 28-26 win. A kill from Bellarmine's
Alyson Harmeling tied the set at 26, but the Greyhounds pulled away with a block and a subsequent kill to end the set.
The third set started out much like the second, but the Greyhounds pulled out to an 11-6 lead thanks in part to phenomenal serving by setter Meghan Blinkerd.
Harmeling led the Knights' offense with 10 kills, followed closely by
Paula Byrns and
Krista Gibson, who slammed nine apiece. Bellarmine primary setter
Bailey BredenbeckCorp tallied 27 assists in the loss.
Freshman libero
Jaclyn Ohlmann continued to shine on defense for the Knights, as she recorded a match-high 20 digs.
The Knights will finish off the regular season at home with matches against Kentucky Wesleyan College and the University of Southern Indiana next weekend.
