Knights continue win streak

LIBERTY, Mo. – The Bellarmine University Knights volleyball squad won their third straight Great Lakes Valley Conference match as they defeated William Jewell College 3-1 (25-16, 25-22, 26-28, 25-23) at the Mabee Center for Physical Education Sunday afternoon.

Paula Byrns led the Knights offensive attack with a career-high 24 kills in her transition to outside hitter. Krista Gibson added 18 kills for Bellarmine (9-6, 5-6 GLVC).

The Knights controlled the first set in part to Byrns' 7 kills. Bellarmine earned the second set win in comeback fashion. Trailing by as much as 20-17, Gibson closed out the Cardinals with three consecutive kills. After dropping the third set, it was once again Gibson who closed out the set and the match for the Knights with her kill to earn the fourth set win.

Bailey BredenbeckCorp  aided the Bellarmine offense with 53 of the team's 63 assists. Jaclyn Ohlmann had a team-high 29 digs to lead the defensive effort. Byrns (12) and Whitney Tormoehlen (12) also had double digit digs for the Knights.

Bellarmine will look to continue their winning streak in the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover starting Friday in Aurora, Illinois. The next home match will be October 21 as the Knights host Wisconsin-Parkside at 7 p.m.
