LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- Looking to advance to the Great Lakes Valley Tournament Championship, the Bellarmine University men's soccer team will first have to dispose of the Drury Panthers on Friday night in the semifinals in Kansas City, Mo.
The sixth seeded Knights are fresh off an upset of third seeded Indianapolis on Sunday, advancing on penalty kicks after a 2-2 tie between the two teams. Drury comes into the game after an upset of their own, downing Northern Kentucky 2-1 in the opening round.
Freshman
Blake Hunter has been huge in the Knights last two wins coming up with 12 total saves, not including stopping two penalty kicks against UIndy to help the Bellarmine cause. Being named the GLVC Player of the Week this week, he has improved his record to 10-5-2 on the year while lowering his goals against average to 0.92.
In the field, sophomore
Connor Brehm (7 goals) and freshman
Dan Schiavi (6 goals, 5 assists) lead the Knights in scoring. Senior captain
Jack Binns anchors the defense while also filling the distributor roll, ranking fourth in the GLVC in assists with eight.
Bellarmine will look to avenge a 1-0 loss to Drury earlier this season. The Panthers got a goal early in the match as Matt Hutchinson scored the unassisted game winner from ten yards out. Hutchinson leads Drury on the season in goals and assists, getting help from Jack Mathis
The Knights and Panthers will square off on Rockhurst's Wilfred C. Bourke Field at 6:00 pm.
