Knights Breeze Past Panthers

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Bellarmine University Knights breezed to a 25-11, 25-13, 25-15 win against in-state foe Kentucky Wesleyan College Friday night in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match at Knights Hall.

With the win, the Knights advanced to 13-11 (7-10 GLVC) on the season. The Panthers remain winless in the GLVC, as they fell to 6-23 overall.

Krista Gibson led the Bellarmine offensive attack with a match-high 10 kills and four aces. The Knights held Kentucky Wesleyan to 21 attack points for the match.

Bellarmine used a dominant first set to take control of the match. The Knights made one attack error and were 9-10 on sideout opportunities in the 25-11 opening frame win. The defense led the way in the second set with Bellarmine limiting Kentucky Wesleyan to four kills en route to a 25-13 advantage. Alyson Harmeling shined in the final set with six of her nine kills to help the Knights clinch the match with a 25-15 win.

Lucy Heidrich (7 kills) also contributed to a balanced Bellarmine attack, which featured kills from eight different players. Jaclyn Ohlmann paced the defensive effort with a match-high 10 digs.

Bailey BredenbeckCorp (18 assists) and Lauryn Hyman (13) split time as the primary setter for the Knights, who outnumbered the Panthers 39-19 in kills.
 
Bellarmine will finish the regular season with Senior Day on Saturday against the University of Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles. First serve is set for 3:00 p.m.
