LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Bellarmine University Knights volleyball squad defeated the Pumas of St. Joseph's College 3-1 (18-25, 27-25, 25-22, 25-23) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match on Saturday afternoon at Knights Hall.
The win advanced the Knights' record to 5-1 (1-1 GLVC) on the season, while the Pumas fell to 4-3 (0-2 GLVC).
We definitely had a much more balanced attack than last night [against the University of Indianapolis],” said Bellarmine Head Coach Dan Palmer. “Our ball control was a lot better. We seemed to have a few issues bringing the ball in service, but overall we seemed a lot better.”
After falling 18-25 to the Pumas in the first set, the Knights came back to win the second set 27-25 as the set ended with a controversial attack error called on St. Joseph's Kate Weiskittel.
Tied at 22 in the third set, the Knights rallied off three consecutive points for the win, including the clincher coming from the service of freshman defensive specialist
Jaclyn Ohlmann.
Junior
Paula Byrns paced the Knights to a comeback win in the deciding fourth set with two aces in the final six points. Byrns' service allowed Bellarmine to rally from a 17-20 deficit and earn the 25-23 match-clinching win.

Alyson Harmeling paced the Knights' offense with 14 kills on 26 total attempts.

Whitney Tormoehlen also recorded double digit kills for Bellarmine.

Kaitlin Young shined on defense, picking up a match-high 30 digs for the Knights.
The Knights hit the road for five road matches before returning to Bellarmine for a home game against Missouri S&T on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 5 p.m. The squad travels to Northern Kentucky University on Tuesday night to take on the Norse at 7 p.m.
